Short Story Contest!

USD Campus

Enter the Vermillion Literary Project's 21st annual Short Story contest. 
The winning story will be published in the 2019 VLP journal, Red Coyote, and earns 
a whopping $100 prizeA $50 prize and publication will also be awarded for 2nd place.

The contest is open to anyone. Contestants should arrive no later than 11:45 a.m.at the McKusick Technology Center, Room 101.Computers will be available, but you can also handwrite your story.

The catch? Contestants are given a theme, word, or phrase not revealed until the contest begins. Contestants must then write their entire story-start to finish-on-site in 3 hours, with the theme figuring prominently in the story. Winners will be notified via email and announced here on our website.

To register, click on the contest registration form link below. Fill out the form and mail with an entry fee check made out to the VLP, to: VLP, USD Dakota Hall 212, 414 E Clark, Vermillion SD 57069-2390 by October 30 for early registration. After that date, and on the day of the contest, late registration fees will apply. You can also drop your form & fee off in the USD English Dept., Dakota Hall 212.
