VLP SHORT STORY WRITING CONTEST

Saturday, November 2, 2019, noon - 3 p.m., USD McCusick Technology Center. Fee to register. Participants are given a prompt at the beginning of the contest, and they have 3 hours in the computer lab to write a complete short story using that prompt. The winning story gets $100 and is published in the 2020 VLP journal, Red Coyote. Second-place story gets $50 and publication.

VLP LiTrash & OPEN MIC NIGHTS

One THURSDAY each month: September 26, October 24, and November 21  at the Varsity Pub, 113 E Main, downtown Vermillion (under 21 okay).

Come and hear a featured reading (sometimes with crazy themes), and maybe play a writing game. Then sign up for an OPEN MIC and read your own work. Fun, no pressure, easy.

VLP WRITERS FESTIVAL

Thursday, 3/26/20, on the USD campus

The festival features morning and afternoon writing workshops with visiting fiction writer and USD alum Pen Pearson (NSU), and Omaha performance poet and poetry slam champion Zedeka Poindexter. The fest also features readings with visiting writers and USD grad creative writing students, and an evening LiTrash open mic MC'd by Zedeka.

VLP COMMUNITY WRITERS GROUP

2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, 6 p.m., Vermillion Public Library

Creative writers of all ages and skill levels are welcome to join. No matter what you write, poetry, fiction, CNF, or memoir, our supportive and enthusiastic group will keep you motivated and writing. Come and share your work, or just come to listen.
